In 1875, Henry Corbin opened a saloon in Westerville, Ohio. The town wasn’t exactly welcoming. Westerville had already banned alcohol sales, and Corbin’s business quickly became the target of protests, hostility, and eventually, an explosion. Most people probably would have taken the hint. Henry tried again in 1879 to which is second saloon was bombed as well.

Those events became known as the Westerville Whiskey Wars. Years later, the town became home to the national headquarters of the Anti-Saloon League and earned the nickname “Dry Capital of the World.” Henry’s time in the saloon business had ended, but his story gave us something worth carrying forward.

It’s the story behind Whiskey War, and it’s been part of High Bank from the beginning. Today, we get to share that whiskey at our Uptown Westerville location, just down the street from where Corbin’s original saloon stood. We like to think Henry would appreciate how things turned out.

Corbin’s Collection is our latest way of raising a glass to him. This 10-year Whiskey War release brings together a decade of aging and a local story that’s been told for more than 150 years. It’s a chance to spend a little more time with the whiskey—and with the history that gave it its name.

So here’s to Henry, to a town with a complicated past, and to sharing a good whiskey with a good story. We’re proud to keep this one going.
